Boil water notice for Okanagan Landing lifted

The Regional District of North Okanagan says fewer properties have been impacted by the water valve break on Okanagan Landing Road in Vernon on Tuesday.

After isolating the affected areas, a revised map has been issued, showing the properties still affected by a boil water notice. Click here to see the map.

The water treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained; but as a precaution, customers in the affected area should boil their drinking water for at least one minute.

The notice will be lifted once two rounds of bacterial sampling confirm the safety of the water system.

Repairs to the valve were completed late Tuesday and crews worked until early morning to flush out water mains.

“Residents in the area may have reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and/or air as the water service returns. Please run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred,” a news release from RDNO stated.

When the notice is rescinded for all remaining customers, it will be posted on the RDNO website and sent to email subscribers.

Water repairs made in Okanagan Landing, boil water notice still in effect

Some customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water in the Okanagan Landing and Tronson Road areas of Vernon are still under a precautionary Boil Water Notice.

The Regional District of North Okanagan said a valve break on the water main in that area resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity to customers on Tuesday.

The RDNO said the boil notice will be in effect until test results confirm the drinking water is safe.

The City of Vernon issued an update at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday to say crews completed the repairs of the valve and water service had been restored to the affected areas.

Boil water notice issued in Okanagan Landing

Some customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water (GVW) in the Okanagan Landing and Tronson Road areas of Vernon are on a precautionary Boil Water Notice (BWN) until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.

A valve break on the water main in this area resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity to customers in the affected area on Tuesday.

As a result, the Regional District of North Okanagan is issuing a BWN to affected areas, flushing the water main, and sampling the water main to ensure the continued safety of the water system.

Crews are on site and a repair will begin as soon as possible.

What should customers do? Residents in the area may experience a loss of or reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and/or air.

When water service returns, please run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

Several Vernon neighbourhoods had their water service interrupted following a hydrant service valve failure Tuesday, July 2.

The City of Vernon stated crews were dispatched to deal with the failure that occurred in the afternoon, and that properties in the surrounding areas were experiencing temporary water service interruptions.

· Lakeshore Rd (from Okanagan Landing Rd to 2691 Lakeshore Rd)

· Cummins Rd

· Dallas Rd

· Captain Bailey Rd and Captain Bailey Way

· Willow Park Rd

The city warned the service interruption could last up to five ours, and that the affected area could expand without notice.

While the work to repair the hydrant is ongoing, traffic is being regulated to a single, alternating lane around the crews.

The City reminds motorists to slow down, be cautious of workers and equipment, and follow all traffic control measures in work zones.
