The North and Central Okanagan, as well as the Shuswap, could see some lightning Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Environment Canada issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the areas that include Vernon, Kelowna, and Salmon Arm on Tuesday, July 2, stating “conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”

The weather agency warns that lightning strikes can be deadly, and advises people seek shelter during storms.

The storm could bring heavy rain, resulting in flash floods, water pooling on the roads, and increased risks of debris flows in areas impacted by burn scars.

There could also be gusting winds, blowing loose items and creating unsafe conditions for water-related activities, as well as large hail that can cause injuries or damage property.

The forecast calls for a chance of thunderstorms and showers from noon through to 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.
