A Vernon realtor is not just hitting targets in her professional career.

Lisa Salt — who runs the real estate firm Re/Max Vernon Salt-Fowler with her husband Gord Fowler — has been inducted into the Canadian Trapshooting Association (CTA) Hall of Fame.

The prestigious honour was bestowed upon her during the 2024 Canadian Trapshooting Championships held at the Vancouver Gun Club on June 29, 2024.

Salt’s journey in trapshooting began in 1982, introduced to the sport by her father, Art Salt, a foundational figure in the North Okanagan Trap and Skeet Club. By the age of 15, Lisa had committed herself to excelling in trapshooting, a passion that has paralleled her successful career in real estate.

Lisa’s early accomplishments set the stage for a distinguished career. She clinched her first Ladies Provincial Singles Championship in 1983. While attending the University of British Columbia, she spent three years focusing on International Trapshooting, earning the first and last ever bronze medal for her ladies’ team at the World Trapshooting Championships in Montecatini, Italy, in 1985.

Opting for the camaraderie of American trapshooting over the International arena, Lisa has since secured numerous titles, including 17 B.C. Ladies Provincial Singles titles, 24 Ladies High All Around titles, four Ladies Handicap titles (as well as winning the entire event for all categories in 1997), and 24 Ladies Doubles titles.

Her achievements extend to the PITA Grand Pacific Championships, where she has won multiple titles across various categories. Salt is one of very few women in B.C. who have achieved the 27-yard line in the handicap event, the most humbling place to shoot from on the trap line.

Lisa’s consistency and excellence are reflected in her remarkable averages. Over her career, she has maintained a PITA aggregate average of 90 per cent or better for 27 seasons, including 17 seasons at 91 per cent or better. Salt has also achieved nine perfect 100 Straight scores in singles in her career.

Salt said the induction is a great honour.

“My dad always taught me there was no difference between a PITA and an ATA target, and it’s nice that the CTA considered all targets shot under both associations. I know dad would be happy about that.”

Trapshooting has always been a family affair for Lisa, with her father, her husband, Gord Fowler, and five other family members actively participating in the sport. Salt continues to honour her father’s legacy as a founding member of the North Okanagan Trap and Skeet Club through her involvement with the club, where she has served as club secretary since 2010.
