Vernon’s new Lakeview Wading Pool ready to open

Jun 26, 2024 | 1:00 PM

Vernon’s newest outdoor pool will open to the public on Friday, June 28.

The Lakeview Wading Pool is located in Lakeview Park on 18th Street in the city’s East Hill neighbourhood.

It replaces the former ‘Peanut Pool’ at that site, which first opened in 1958, and was popular with families with young children. It got its name due to its peanut-like shape.

Construction of the new pool started in June 2022 and was faced with delays and cost overruns.

The latest cost estimate was $4.8 million in May of this year, up from the original $3.3 million.

The City of Vernon says an official grand opening and community celebration for the new wading pool will be held on Thursday, July 11. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Meantime, the Lavington Pool will also open to the public on Friday, June 28.
