The 30th annual Sunshine Festival in downtown Vernon saw a lot of ‘liquid sunshine,’ but organizers were still pleased with the turnout and how it went.

The annual event, put on by the Downtown Vernon Association, was held Saturday, June 15 on six blocks of 30th Avenue, featuring vendors, activities, music and food.

The weather was cooler than normal with some showers, but that didn’t seem to matter too much.

“People came out and were happy to be there, Peter Kaz, marketing and events manager for the DVA told Vernon Matters. “The rain simply added another element to the event, without any issues from anyone.”

Kaz did not provide an estimate on how many people came out over the day, but he said, the attendees and the vendors were in great spirits.

“We were so pleased to see everyone enjoying their visit. People made the best of it and utilized what was available and took part in all that they could,” Kaz commented.

The festival is considered the kick-off to the summer season in Vernon.
