Minor football gets go ahead for new building

A local sports organization will be getting more space to store its equipment.

Staff at the Regional District of North Okanagan have been given approval to investigate options to sublet an exclusive-use area for the Vernon and District Minor Football Association to construct a storage building at the Greater Vernon Athletics Park.

The district says no spaces currently being used by other groups will be affected and the football association will be responsible for all costs related to the construction and ongoing maintenance for their portion of the building.

Association vice president Chris Terleski told the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee the building will be used as a clubhouse for its flag and tackle football programs, as well as for clinics, camps, and events at the GVAP.

For the past 12 years, VDMFA had used a leased property in the Alpine Centre on Kalamalka Road, but that site recently sold and they had to vacate it.
