Anniversary Open House Marks Monashee Optometry’s First Year in Business

Dr. Barrie opened Monashee Optometry in May 2023, after practicing optometry for 17 years. He and his wife Lauren were very hands-on throughout the project, from the layout to the finishing touches.

“The goal was to have a clinic that was focused on patient care, but in a calm, relaxed atmosphere,” shared Dr. Barrie, “We were excited to have all the latest technology in the clinic!”

Being able to offer optimal care through state-of-the-art equipment was a priority for Dr. Barrie, who had always had a goal to open his own clinic. Some of the leading technology at Monashee Optometry includes:

optical coherence tomography (OCT) to screen for such eye conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration,
an Optomap to take ultra-wide field images of the retina.

Looking back on the first year, Dr Barrie said, “I am so grateful for my patients – there was a list of people waiting to book in as soon as we opened. I want to thank our team and the community for all of your support this past year.”’

He also noted that one of the highlights of the first year was being voted Best Eyewear in the Vernon Best of the Best Awards. Monashee Optometry has a full-service optical, led by Deb who is an optician with years of experience in the field.

Away from the clinic, Dr. Barrie is a volunteer firefighter with the Lavington Fire Hall, and both he and Lauren volunteer as coaches in various sports. This community involvement, along with how locals have embraced the new clinic, has helped the Vernon area feel like home for Dr. Barrie and his young family of four.

“Thank you to Vernon and surrounding area for a great first year,” said Dr. Barrie. “We look forward to the years ahead in this wonderful community!”
