Warrant issued for suspect, then pulled after lawyer mix-up
A mix-up in date by his lawyer led to a bench warrant being issued for Curtis Sagmoen in Kamloops Provincial Court last week.
Sagmoen is facing two charges of possession of a firearm contrary to an order, but didn’t appear in court on May 16 and neither did his attorney.
The matter was back in court Tuesday, May 21, and his counsel had the matter added to the court list.
“[His lawyer] advised the court that she had instructions to appear as his agent on May 16 and had mis-diarized the appearance and failed to attend court on his behalf. The bench warrant was vacated and his next appearance was scheduled for June 6, 2024,” Damienne Darby, communications counsel with the BC Prosecution Service told Vernon Matters.
