Former Knights coach gets new job in KIJHL

The former head coach and general manager of the North Okanagan Knights wasn’t out of work long.

Liam McOnie has been hired for the same positions by the Sicamous Eagles of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

McOnie was let go by the Knights after the team was sold and moved to Quesnel in April.

His departure came after a succesful playoff run for the Knights which saw them make it to the second round before falling in 7 games to the Princeton Posse.

The league said McOnie’s success with the Knights made him a top candidate for the Eagles.

“Liam’s experiences in numerous coaching roles and his playing career have taught him the importance of developing relationships with all stakeholders in each organization,” Emanuel Sequeira, Director of Communications with the KIJHL, stated.

“Whether it be players, fellow staff members, arena staff, bus drivers, or hotel staff, the relationships he has been able to develop have helped him gain an understanding of the importance of each team.”

McOnie, a 28-year-old from Vernon, is a former goalie, and has worked as a goaltending coach who has worked with the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets and Tri-City Americans.
