May 19, 2024 | 1:00 PM

Vernon will be hosting an amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) and kickboxing event this summer.

The Okanagan Fighting Championship will be held Saturday, July 6 at the Vernon Curling Club.

The event will feature title fights involving local MMA fighters including Rylie “Coyote” Marchand (Unity MMA and Kickboxing Vernon) in the women’s bantamweight (135 lbs) championship and “Ruthless” Lucas Taylor (BOA, BJJ, MMA Kamloops) in the men’s bantamweight (135 lbs) championship.

Alisha Kler is the event’s promoter.

“We’re really excited to bring MMA, kickboxing and jiu-jitsu in this format to the Okanagan,” said Kler, one of just two female MMA promoters in B.C.

Kler said this is the first event of its kind in Vernon in five years.

Tickets and other information is available at https://www.showpass.com/ofc-mma-1/ or at Unity MMA in Vernon.

All ages are welcome. Kids 10 and under get in free.
