$70K Ask

O’Keefe Ranch looking for city support of summer operations

May 13, 2024 | 5:00 AM

The O’Keefe Ranch and the Interior Heritage Society are asking for some financial aid from the City of Vernon.

The Ranch has requested the city provide $70,000 in funding so it can fully run its operations over the summer.

The Ranch originally requested the city provide $150,000 in financial aid for 2024, but Vernon council only approved a base contribution of $50,000, funded through taxation, along with $30,000 from unused COVID Restart Grant funding.

However, the Ranch had to pay back a Federal COVID loan of $40,000, and is again asking that the city provide the remaining $70,000.

A staff report recommends Vernon City Council approve the $70,000 to the Ranch and the Interior Heritage Society. That would be funded from the 2023 Prior Year Unexpended Uncommitted Balance, which currently has $214,187 in reserves.

Council will discuss the request at the regular meeting Monday, May 13.
