After another succesful year for North Okanagan athletes and teams, it’s time for the public to choose the best of the best.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024 Tim Hortons North Okanagan Athlete, Team and Leadership awards.

The deadline for suggestions is Friday, May 31.

Nominations can be emailed to Ann Holmes, a director with the North Okanagan Athlete of the Year committee at involved2@shaw.ca or by phone at 250-308-1558.

The Athlete of the Year award has been handed out since 1994, with former NHL forward Brent Gilchrist being the first recipient.

In 2023, the race was so tight, the award was shared by ultra athlete Leah Goldstein and multi-sport star Aimee Skinner.

The Team of the Year award started in 1996 when it was presented to the Vernon Vipers who won the Royal Bank Cup that year.

The 2023 winner was the Zone 5 Venom ringette team that won the Western Canadian title as well as the provincials.

The 2023 Tim Hortons Leadership in Sports award goes to community leaders such as sports organizers or coaches to recognize their years of service.

Vernon Curling Club manager Dave Merklinger was presented with that award in 2023.

The award winners will be chosen by a panel of media and sports community representatives.
