Coffee talk: RCMP to discuss policing at Vernon and Armstrong events

May 8, 2024 | 2:00 PM

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is set to host another two Coffee With A Cop events.

The events will allow members of the public to sit down with local officers to discuss policing and public safety over a coffee, in a calm environment.

Coffee With A Cop also acts as a method to improve police-public relations.

“We’re trying to humanize the uniform, break down barriers, and build trust with our residents,” Inspector Blake MacLeod, acting officer in charge for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said.

“There’s so much value in setting aside time for those positive, one-on-one interactions and Coffee with a Cop lets us do that in an informal, relaxed setting. Come stop by, enjoy a drink on us, and have a good honest conversation.”

In addition to discussing local law enforcement issues and getting to know officers, members of the public interested in pursuing a career in policing will be able to learn about the recruitment process and what it takes to be a Mountie.

The Coffee With A Cop events will be held in Armstrong and in Vernon, both on Wednesday, May 15.

The Armstrong event will go from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at PV Blvd Coffee, with the Vernon event scheduled fro 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the downtown Blenz location.
