Clydesdales trotting out to celebrate Mother’s Day

May 6, 2024 | 6:00 AM

Horse Drawn Okanagan will run a special event to mark Mother’s Day on May 12.

The organization will bring out Clydesdale horses for a tea party at the stables in Armstrong.

The event will see guests seated between row of tabled horses as they enjoy tea and fresh baked cupcakes, and listen to live music performed by violinist Galen Schram.

There will also be a vintage inspired photo wall set up at the event, and Willow the donkey will be there to greet guests to the farm.

“We want to offer this opportunity for guests to spend some time with the horses, petting them, talking to them, and just enjoying their company. Most of our events involve wagon and sleigh rides in larger groups,” Kelly MacIntosh, owner and Event Coordinator of Horse Drawn Okanagan, said.

“This is a more unique interaction. Horses bond with people in a very special way. Sometimes it’s just cool to be around such large horses. Sometimes horses help us connect emotionally. And to have a violinist amongst the horses, wow, it’s going to be a wonderful afternoon.”

Attendees are encouraged to dress up with derby hats and tweed jackets, with Horse Drawn Okanagan saying the best dressed guest will win a hanging basket prize.

There will be seating times at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12.

Tickets are $40 per person, and space is limited so pre-registration is required.
