Repairs will close Vernon Rec Complex for one day

May 1, 2024 | 10:33 AM

The Vernon Recreation Centre will be shut down to most of its users for one day next week.

The City of Vernon said the closure on Thursday, May 9 is to allow BC Hydro to complete scheduled maintenance at the complex.

“The outage is necessary for the replacement of an aging transformer and will commence at 9 a.m. and last the majority of the day,” a city news release stated.

The power interruption will impact service at the Recreation Centre, Halina Centre, Priest Valley Arena, Priest Valley Gymnasium, Vernon Curling Club and Vernon Boxing Club.

The Aquatic Centre will provide limited operation with a morning lap and leisure swim available from 6:30 – 8:00 a.m., but drop-in swim sessions will be cancelled for the remainder of the day.

Recreation Services will directly communicate with program participants affected by cancellations due to the outage, and refunds will be issued if warranted.

BC Hydro was unable to complete its scheduled maintenance at the Rec Centre in early April after its crews had to respond to downed power lines due to a windstorm in the Vernon area on April 3.
