People experiencing homelessness in Kamloops will be able to access temporary shelter spaces for the time being.

The lease for the shelter at the former Stuart Wood School has been extended until April 30, 2025.

The shelter contains 25 overnight beds and also provides people with daily meals, access to laundry and shower facilities, and referrals to case management and health care services.

The shelter will continued to be operated by the Out of the Cold Foundation, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting the unhoused population.

Through B.C. Housing, the province is providing approximately $1.3-million to support this facility.

According to the 2023 Point in Time Homelessness Count, there were roughly 312 people experiencing or had experienced homelessness in Kamloops.
