Stolen dirt bikes recovered

Mounties in Salmon Arm have recovered multiple stolen dirt bikes over the past several days.

Police say three bikes were believed to have been stolen, but were not reported prior to being located in nearby wooded areas.

The first bike was discovered on a trail near the end of 9th Ave NE on April 21. Two more dirt bikes were then found in that same area on April 25.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP.

The rightful owners of the dirt bikes should contact the RCMP and provide detailed descriptions within 90 days in order to claim the machines.

The police noted property crime is an issue in small and large communities throughout B.C., and mainly comes down to thefts of opportunity, with people taking advantage of items left in plain sight or unattended.

To mitigate the possibility of thefts, people are advised to follow a 9 p.m. routine every night.

“This should include removing all valuables including keys and garage door openers from vehicles, locking vehicle doors, avoid storing anything of value outside, locking up outdoor buildings and primary residence doors and windows, and turning on exterior lights and alarm systems,” Salmon Arm RCMP said.
