Local FortisBC line to be inspected by low-flying helicopters

People in the North Okanagan will see helicopters flying at low elevations for a few months.

FortisBC will be conducting aerial inspections of its high-pressure natural gas transmission lines in the area, using Talon Helicopters performing low-level flyovers.

People can expect to see the helicopters flying overhead between April 26 and June 15.

FortisBC’s website stated Talon Helicopters are permitted by Transport Canada to fly at low levels.

The utility provider said this method means lines that previously had to be inspected by people on foot can be checked more quickly, adding the aerial operations are safer and more cost-effective than doing the work on the ground.
