The host team is putting on a show at the Esso Cup.

The Thompson Okanagan Lakers defeated the Edmonton Junior Oilers 3-2 on Monday night at Kal Tire Place in Vernon to improve to 2-0 at the six-team Canadian women’s Under 18 club hockey championship.

Two Vernon players led the Lakers to the win: Lily Roberts scored twice and Hannah Robertson rounded out the scoring for the Lakers.

Reese Sliskovic of Kelowna stopped 35 of the 37 shots she faced.

“This is the biggest and loudest crowd we’ve played in front of all year,” Lily Roberts said. “We fed off it, everyone was working so hard and we got the momentum early and kept it. This is a big win; we don’t want people to think we didn’t earn our way here as the host […] we won our way here and we have one goal in mind and that is to win the gold.”
