Police recover woman’s body, foul play believed to be involved

RCMP have located the body of a woman while investigating an alleged abduction from the Lumby area.

Police say the woman’s body was found in a rural location on Sunday, and foul play is believed to have been a factor in the suspicious death.

Reports say the body was found on Mabel Lake Forest Service Road.

A man believed to be involved in the death was arrested in the general vicinity, and was released from custody the next day with a series of mandatory conditions to abide by.

Police don’t provide the victim’s name, but reports from Saturday said 44-year old Tatjana Stefanski was last seen Saturday morning while speaking with her ex-husband at a home on Highway 6 before departing unexpectedly with him.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation.

“At this juncture, investigators believe that this incident is isolated and that no threat to the public exists,” Staff Sergeant Jason Smart of the Southeast District MCU, said.

Investigators are appealing to the public that if they have video, dash camera or other, from along Highway 6 to the west of Lumby, within the Village of Lumby, north along Shuswap Avenue or Lumby-Mabel Lake Road towards and up the east side of Mabel Lake between 7 a.m. on April 13, 2024, to 10 a.m. on April 14, to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477.

RCMP have so far not provided an update on a Lumby woman who was reported missing over the weekend.

Tatjana Stefanski, 44, was last seen Saturday morning while speaking with her ex-husband, Vitali Steffen, before departing unexpectedly with him.

Stefanski’s boyfriend, Jason Gaudreault, said on social media, Tanjana, as he spells her first name, was “pushed into a car ” by her ex-husband in Lumby.

Police said the two were last seen in Steffen’s 2007 black Audi A6, with B.C. licence plate GK1-88L and police were seeking tips of their whereabouts.

Police seek tips on Lumby woman last seen with ex-husband

RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance to locate a missing 44-year-old woman from Lumby.

Tatjana Stefanski was last seen at approximately 8:05 a.m., on Saturday, April 13 while speaking with her ex-husband before departing unexpectedly with him.

They were last seen in the man’s 2007 black Audi A6, British Columbia licence plate GK188L in Lumby.

Police are asking anyone that may have seen the vehicle, or may know where Tatjana Stefanski or her ex-husband are, to call 9-1-1.
