Draft OCP drawn up in Armstrong, public input sought

The City of Armstrong has outlined its plans for the future, and is asking for feedback from residents.

The city’s draft Official Community Plan (OCP) has been prepared to help guide the vision, goals, policies and strategies for Armstrong moving forward and growing as a community.

Included in the plan are guides for decision-making, policies, and investments in land use, infrastructure, transportation, housing, environment, arts and culture, parks, and economic development.

The new OCP, dubbed “PLANarmSTRONG,” is still in the draft phase, and the city is encouraging residents learn more about it and provide input.

Two open houses will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 at City Hall, where members of the public will be able to learn more about the proposed plan and provide feedback.

The team running the open house will be able to inform the public on the key directions and themes of the new OCP, as well as collect feedback on specific elements such as housing, infrastructure, economic development and environmental sustainability.

Additionally, the OCP team will be running pop-up information booths at several locations around the community on April 9 and 10 to speak with the public about the draft document.

April 9

The “PLANarmSTRONG” draft plan was developed in part from community engagement held last fall.

“Initial engagement with the community in the fall had over 640 locals, including youth from every school in Armstrong, weigh in at our OCP in a week of events,” Laurie Cordell, Armstrong’s Manager of Planning Services, said.

“Feedback provided from the community has helped shape the draft OCP and we are looking forward to bringing the draft plan back to residents for review and feedback.”
