Vernon brush fire sparks reminder of conditions

Mar 26, 2024 | 4:15 PM

Vernon Fire Rescue is reminding people to be cautious with open flames, as the dry conditions attributed to a fire spreading in the Bella Vista area Monday.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., March 25, Fire Rescue (VFRS) responded to a report of a brush fire on a property at the end of Vineyard Way.

Crews arrived on the scene and confirmed a small brush fire of approximately 20 by 20 feet was burning.

The fire was quickly extinguished, with VFRS saying there were no injuries and no structures were at risk.

Though the current fire danger rating in Vernon is low, VFRS reminds residents that the wildfire risk persists, and that it’s critical people are aware of their surroundings and careful about their outdoor activities.

Anyone who spots flames or smoke within city limits is asked to call 911.

Wildfires should also be reported to the B.C. Wildfire Service at 1-800-665-5555, or by dialing *5555 on a cell phone.
