Spring Sweeping

Vernon streets get spring cleaning

Mar 19, 2024 | 2:30 PM

Street sweeping operations are fully underway in Vernon.

The city confirmed Tuesday, March 19, that crews had been tasked with clearing the winter traction materials from the roads.

Crews had been sweeping arterial roads and sidewalks already this year, but as the forecast is now showing temperatures above the freezing level, and the risk of snow and ice forming has decreased, the full city-wide spring street sweeping program can go ahead.

Residents are asked to keep an eye out for signage indicating when street sweeping operations would be done in their areas, and remove their vehicles from the road at that time.

Motorists approaching a street sweeper or work crews on the road are reminded to slow down and be cautious.

Crews will be clearing the roads seven days a week, and it could take between four and six weeks to complete the work across the city.

The city provides year-round street sweeping on arterial and collector routes, which will resume once the spring street sweeping operations are complete.
