Extra funding approved for Pottery Ravine Park

The City of Vernon is taking steps to ensure the Pottery Ravine Park is completed by injecting more funds into the work.

The city had previously allocated $202,000 for the project, but a staff update provided to city council Monday, March 11, stated the tendered construction cost had risen to $311,000.

The increase was mainly attributed to continued inflationary pressure, as well as unexpected costs associated with addressing an encroachment from an adjacent property.

The project involves improving the existing playground structure and developing the existing park at Pottery Ravine, which is located behind residential properties on 18th Ave.

Council voted unanimously in favour of providing the additional $109,000 for the park’s construction.

Of that total, $73,000 would be provided from the infrastructure reserve, and the remaining $36,000 would be funded from the Regional District of North Okanagan’s development cost charges.

Construction of the park is expected to begin this spring, with the project completed in the fall.
