Result now official: Residents soundly reject plan for mosquito control

The results of a mosquito control assent vote in Electoral Area F (rural Enderby) of the Regional District of North Okanagan are now official.

The RDNO said 114 people (8 per cent) voted Yes, and 1,232 voted No (92 per cent).

The voter turn-out was 35 per cent, or 1,346 residents.

The bylaw would have allowed the RDNO to establish a service to provide mosquito control to the residents of Electoral Area “F,” with a focus on mosquito breeding sites along the Shuswap River near the communities of Kingfisher, Ashton Creek, Grindrod and Mara.

Residents of Electoral Area F (Rural Enderby) of the Regional District of North Okanagan have rejected a proposal to fund mosquito control in areas along the Shuswap River.

The RDNO said after Saturday’s assent vote, the preliminary results were 114 residents voted Yes (8.5 per per cent), and 1,231 voted No (91.5 per cent). A total of 1,345 votes were cast.

The bylaw would have allowed the RDNO to establish a service to provide mosquito control to the residents of Electoral Area “F”, with a focus on mosquito breeding sites along the Shuswap River near the communities of Kingfisher, Ashton Creek, Grindrod and Mara.
