Grout that is a dream to clean

If the thought of scrubbing away at grout makes you think twice about choosing tile, you’ll be happy to hear that grout has come a long way.

To find out what makes today’s grout so superior and easy to clean, we spoke with Dennis from Arden Tile.

“The old sanded and non-sanded grouts stained easily and showed their age quickly, becoming blotchy. The new grouts are made with very fine glass beads, making them stronger and packed denser.”

He also passed along some suggestions.

Install tips to make cleaning your grout even easier

“You can make them easier to clean by sealing them with a quality penetrating sealer after installation or adding an additive while mixing and installing the grout.”

Add one of those steps when installing your new tile, and then thank yourself every time you clean it.

Stain-proof for heavy traffic areas

There’s also special grout on the market for places like entryways and kitchen countertops that are exposed to more potential stains.

“For heavy traffic areas, there are new single component grouts that are completely stain proof,” said Dennis. “They cost a little more and require some special installation instructions, but they come premixed, and you don’t ever need to seal it. Even cooking oils or red wine won’t stain it.”

Don’t reach for the bleach

It can be tempting to reach for heavy-hitting cleaners when faced with the toughest dirty grout. Dennis had a better suggestion for products that won’t harm your grout.

“If you still have troubles, there are great PH neutral tile cleaners available that are great at cleaning stubborn dirty grout. These cleaners do not break down grout like diluted vinegar or bleach can.”

Go for it

It’s hard to beat the durability, water resistance, style and value that tile offers. Grout that is easier to clean than old-school grout makes tile an easy choice.
