Extended E-Scooter Pilot

Vernon to participate in another e-scooter pilot

Feb 25, 2024 | 1:00 PM

The City of Vernon is onboard for another e-scooter pilot.

At the regular meeting Monday, Feb. 26, Vernon Council voted in favour of a resolution to participate in another provincial e-scooter pilot from April 2024 to April 2028.

Neuron Mobility’s contract to provide the public e-scooters in Vernon had already been extended through the end of 2024.

A process would be developed to accept bids from e-scooter contractors once the existing contract has come to an end.

Electric kick scooters will not be a thing of the past in Vernon.

The provincial pilot project to evaluate e-scooter use in six B.C. communities, including Vernon, will come to an end in April.

However, another four-year pilot will pick up immediately where the existing pilot ends.

It was noted that the new pilot will involve additional reporting, including collecting safety data. It will run from April 2024 to April 2028.

A staff report to Vernon council recommends the city stay involved in the pilot moving forward.

In order to participate, council will need to pass a resolution in support of the program.

Council is expected to pass that resolution at its meeting Monday, Feb. 26. City staff will then communicate that decision to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Vernon council had already extended the contract with Neuron Mobility, the local e-scooter and e-bike provider, until the end of 2024.
