The Vernon Vipers served up a dud to their fans on B.C.’s Family Day, losing 9-1 to the visiting Cranbrook Bucks in BC Hockey League action Monday afternoon at Kal Tire Place.

The Bucks led 3-1 after one and 4-1 after two before exploding for five unanswered goals in the final period before a crowd of 2,728 fans in Vernon.

Vancouver product Blake Cotton weaved his way to a hat trick for the Bucks with Loke Sodergren added a pair.

Adam Csabi, with his 17th goal of the season, was the only Viper to beat Carter Capton in the Cranbrook net.

Ethan David and Colin Reay both played net for Vernon.

In other action Monday, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks upset the conference-leading Penticton Vees 3-2 at the Shaw Centre in overtime to take a 3 point lead over the Vipers (25-16-1-0) in the race for third place in the Interior Conference.

The Vipers travel to Prince George for two games against the Spruce Kings on Friday and Saturday, with both games on 107.5 Beach Radio.
