Local window and door installation firm KT Fairglass Ltd. and supplier Milgard Windows and Doors are stepping up to help out a local family impacted by a tragic accident.

Installation crews were busy installing a new picture window in the Arthur family home in South Vernon on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

In 2021 Declan Arthur was involved in a quadding accident in Noble Canyon, leaving him with a traumatic brain injury, and resulting in extensive home renovations to allow him to remain with his parents. One of Declan’s joys is to watch activity on the street.

“We tried to do this window a long time before my son’s accident but since my son’s accident, we haven’t been able to do it. We haven’t been able to afford to do it. My son likes to sit by the window and look out, but has hasn’t been able to do that with the moisture and everything,” Declan’s father, Gord Arthur, told Vernon Matters.

The installation had a chance beginning after the co-owner of KT Fairglass came to the home to purchase a ring light advertised on Facebook marketplace.

“I asked why he was selling things online? He said because my son had an unfortunate accident and we need to take care of him. So I got that story, and as I stepped away from the house I noticed that most of the windows had already been done, but the living room window had a lot of condensation and was really old,” Todd Embley said.

Embley got thinking about the situation and made a phone call to window supplier Milgard Windows and Doors.

“He (Todd) had met a local family in need in the Vernon area, he described the situation and once we heard the story, we were eager to help out in the community anyway we could,” Milgard Windows and Doors outside sales representative for B.C., Craig Rasmussen, said.

The companies plan to try help other people in need.

“Absolutely, we would love to do this once a month. The big call to action is if you know a family in need with a window in need, please get in touch and nominate them. We would love to explore doing this for a family in need every month in Vernon and surrounding areas,” Embley added.
