Coldstream’s building permit values hit new high

The District of Coldstream hit a record high in building permit values in 2023.

A report from the District’s Development Services Department stated there were 117 building permits approved last year, which included 169 residential units. The value of those permits was just over $54 million, with approximately $910,000 in fees levied for building permits.

Comparatively, in 2022, there were 105 building permits issued, with values at $32.9 million, generating $511,000 in fees.

Development Services stated the totals in 2023 was the highest annual total on record, beating out the previous record from 2014, when building permits valued at just over $38-million were issued.

Coming off the record high year, Coldstream has also started 2024 off strong.

A second report by Development Services stated there were nine permits issued in January of 2024, valued at just over $3 million.

The permits in January included three single family homes, three for garage/shops, two for renovations and one for a swimming pool.

The report noted this past January was up from the same month in 2023, which saw eight permits valued at $2,334,459 issued. It was also noted that there was one new housing unit project permitted in January of 2024 compared to the year prior.
