Vernon Snowmobile Association’s new chalet now open

The Vernon Snowmobile Association’s new chalet is open and ready for use.

Grant Anderson, a member of the association (VSA), announced the new chalet in Silver Star Provincial Park has been built and is always open and ready for use.

“The chalet build would not have been possible without the generous contribution of many local organizations and the tireless efforts of many club members,” Anderson said in his release.

Anderson said donations, both monetary and materials/labour, were provided by many local companies including a $100,000 grant from the Province of B.C.

“Construction efforts began in the fall of 2022 when the old chalet was demolished,” he said. “Then throughout the summer and fall of 2023 the foundation was poured, and the new chalet rose on the same spot as the old chalet. The new chalet is an impressive structure built to last the next 60 years with a vaulted ceiling, generous windows allowing in natural light and a beautiful all cedar interior.”

Anderson said the chalet is always unlocked and available for use. In the winter months it serves as a pit stop for snowmobiles and snowshoers, while mountain bikers and hikers can use the facility in the summer.

VSA will hold a grand opening event March 9 to celebrate the new chalet. Past and present members, as well as members of the public, are invited to the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., which will feature a barbeque lunch.

People without snowmobiles wishing to attend will be transported to the chalet via a shuttle service from the parking lot on Sovereign Lake Rd.

Those wishing to attend can RSVP at Snowevents.vsa@gmail.com.

Anderson noted the VSA was founded in 1967 is the oldest snowmobile club in B.C. The Association supports over 160 km of trails, and runs both the new chalet within Silver Star Provincial Park and the chalet outside the park towards Armstrong.
