Stewardship seeking grant applications for projects using recycled rubber

Organizations using recycled rubber for projects have an opportunity to access some financial support.

Tire Stewardship B.C., a non-profit group that collects and recycles scrap tires, has opened applications for the 2024 Community Grant Program.

The program provides an opportunity for applicants to receive funding for projects that use recycled tire and rubber products.

“From Osoyoos to Squamish to North Vancouver and beyond, we’ve worked with community partners from all across B.C. to create useful, beautiful spaces such as playgrounds, splash pads, hockey arena dressing rooms and bike paths, all using recycled rubber,” Rosemary Sutton, executive director of Tire Stewardship B.C., said.

“In 2023, we provided grants to 10 organizations so that they could begin or upgrade their communities and recreational areas. Across the 10 projects, 27,921 scrap tires were used. We can’t wait to see what projects the 2024 recipients will create.”

Grants of up to $30,000 will be provided on a matching funds basis, where the applicant also provides as much or more than the grant total. Freight and installation costs will be included in the grants.

Applications can be submitted online until March 5.

To qualify for the grants, the projects must be fully accessible, including wheelchair accessible, and made using scrap tires collected in British Columbia.

Projects that received funding in the past include playgrounds, water parks, fitness areas, walkways, and running tracks.
