‘Amazing supporter’ receives Order of Jopo

A long-time volunteer has received the highest honour Vernon Winter Carnival can bestow.

Doug Edgar was presented with the Order of Jopo by B.C. Premier David Eby when he was in Vernon last week.

The award hnours people like Edgar, who been devoted supporters of Carnival over the years.

“[Edgar] has been an amazing supporter of the Carnival and volunteered throughout many, many years. He is also a well-known past chair who has shown tremendous community spirit and cCommitment,” the Carnival Society said on social media.

Visiting dignitaries and honoured cities around the world have also received the Order of Jopo over the years.

Meantime, local business owner Jim Clipperton is this year’s winner of the Jesse Ferguson Memorial Trophy.

“He has been presented the trophy for his huge heart and dedication to Carnival. Being a business owner of Nor-Val [Rentals], he hasn’t forgotten about his community and has been supporting it and the Carnival for many years! The machinery he has been providing us with has been always needed,” the society said.

The trophy is presented to a person or group who has shown years of dedication to Carnival through the support of events and volunteerism.
