Wetter and warmer weather to start new year in Vernon

Vernon received more snow and rain last month than normal, which given the recent drought conditions, will be welcome news to most people.

Environment Canada said the Vernon auto weather station recorded 55 millimeters of precipitation in January, which was 147 per cent of the normal 37.4 millimeters.

The weather agency said the total made it the 25th wettest January since Vernon weather records began in 1901.

Kelowna, Penticton, Kamloops and Vancouver were among the other B.C. communities to have more precipitation than normal in January.

Vernon’s mean temperature for the month was minus 3.5 degrees Celsius which was about a half-a-degree warmer than the normal minus 3.9 degrees.
