A strong rookie season with his hometown team in the BC Hockey League has paid off for a Vernon hockey product.

Erik Pastro of the Vernon Vipers has committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, a Division 1 school in the NCAA.

“I am honoured and excited for the opportunity to play Division 1 hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha,” Pastro, a 6’3, 180 pound centre said. “I would like to thank the entire Vipers organization as well as my family and coaches who have allowed me this opportunity. I’m excited for what the future holds in Vernon and then Omaha.”

The 18-year-old Pastro is second on the Vipers in scoring with 13 goals and 15 assists in 36 games.

“Erik worked very hard over the off season to set up for early success in the BCHL,” Vipers head coach and GM Jason McKee said. “Erik is a great example of taking your time through the development process and with his patience and commitment to becoming a better all around player. He has set himself up for a tremendous opportunity to play college hockey.

The University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks play their games at the Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.

Pastro will join the Mavericks once he has finished his BCHL career.
