Vipers go 0-2 on weekend road trip after loss to Bucks

The Vernon Vipers could only muster one goal as they fell 2-1 to the Cranbrook Bucks Sunday afternoon at Western Financial Place in the East Kootenays.

The Bucks peppered Vipers goalie Colin Reay with 45 shots, getting goals from Jack Silich and Sam Belanger.

Julian Facchinelli, with his his 6th goal of the season, was the only Viper to beat Bucks goalie Braedyn McIntosh 15 minutes into the second period to cut Cranbrook’s lead to 2-1.

With the two weekend losses, the Vipers fell to 21-14-1-0 for fourth in the Interior Conference, 7 points back of the third place Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The next game for the Vipers will be against the Silverbacks Saturday, Feb. 3, 6 p.m. at Kal Tire Place.

Vipers snuffed out by Smokies in Smelter City

Luke Pakulak had a powerplay goal and Ethan David made 37 saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Vernon Vipers fell to the Trail Smoke Eaters by a 3-1 score at the Cominco Arena on Saturday night.

Pakulak had a handful of chances in the game and was finally rewarded in the second period while on a powerplay.

Discipline was a big factor in the game as the Vipers found themselves giving up 7 powerplay chances to the Smokies who struck twice including the game winner early in the 3rd period.

Ethan David held his team in it with a number of big saves including 18 in the second period alone.

Chase Stefanek led the way offensively for Trail with 2 goals and 1 assist. Mathieu Cobetto-Roy had a goal and an assist.

Ryan Parker made 22 saves on 23 shots for his 9th win.

The Vipers finished 1 for 4 on the powerplay, while the PK finished with 5 kills on 7 chances.
