Lots of laughs as teams compete for ‘Golden Plunger’ Trophy at outhouse races

There was no shortage of places “to go” as hundreds of people “flushed-out” some fun at third annual Lumby Outhouse Races.

The event on Sunday (Jan. 21) saw teams push homemade outhouses mounted on skis or wooden boards in the Salmon Trail parking lot.

Members of the Vernon Winter Carnival Society were among the teams that “took the plunge,” so to say.

“It was a wild and wonderful time at the third annual Lumby Outhouse Races and Vernon Winter Carnival was proud to take part with our brand new ‘Toilet Trotter’ outhouse on skis…with perfect weather to boot,” Kris Fuller, carnival’s executive director, said.

A total of 20 teams were ‘pushing potties’ at the event.

“It was an absolute blast!” Fuller exclaimed.

Organizers say their goal is to put on a first class community event that gets people outside in the middle of winter.

“There was hundreds of spectators today that came out to be a part of this vision. There was 20 teams of talented folks who gathered to entertain us with their truly brilliant designs. The quality of the outhouses this year was truly fabulous,” a posting on social media by Lumby Outhouse race, said.

The legal squad of Woolley and Co. finished in first place, winning the “Golden Plunger” Trophy, while TP Electric was second.

The best decorated team was Rad Dad Racing.
