Snow a factor in vehicle incidents on highway

UPDATE

A pickup truck and a commercial truck were involved in a crash on Highway 97 north of Vernon Wednesday morning.

RCMP say the incident took place near the intersection of Meadowlark Road.

“The vehicle had been travelling southbound on the highway when it lost control and ended up in the ditch on the side of the northbound lane,” Const. Chris Terleski told Vernon Matters.

BC Emergency Health Services said two ambulances responded.

“Paramedics cared for and transported one patient to hospital,” Paramedic Public Information Officer Jasprit Khandal told Vernon Matters.

Another incident on the highway south of Vernon near Bailey Road saw a vehicle go off the highway and into a ditch south of Birnie Road, with the occupants all able to get out.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.

The crash site on Highway 97 North has now been cleared.

Vehicle collision on highway north of Vernon

Dispatch reports that a vehicle collision has occurred on Highway 97 near Swan Lake.

The report stated a two-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 97 near Meadowlark Rd. at noon Wednesday, Jan. 17.

The collision involved a pickup truck e and a commercial truck.

The pickup driver reportedly suffered injuries and was receiving treatment on scene, while the truck driver was not believed to be physically harmed.

BX-Swan Lake Fire Department was first on the scene, with B.C. Ambulance and Vernon North Okanagan RCMP dispatched shortly after the crash.

A caller to Vernon Matters stated the highway had been reduced to single lanes in each direction as a result of the crash.
