Criminality ruled out after body found on Vernon street

RCMP say the death of a person found on a Vernon street Wednesday morning was not a result of foul play.

The body was discovered in the 4200 block of 34th Street around 6:45 a.m. Jan. 10, and investigators were on the scene for several hours as part of their investigation.

“As a result of that investigation, criminality is not suspected in the person’s death and the BC Coroners Service has been engaged and is conducting their own concurrent fact-finding investigation,” Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer, said.

“Our sincerest and most heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” Terleski added.

RCMP are not releasing any other details out of respect for the privacy of the family.

Police are expected to issue an update later today on the discovery of a dead person on a Vernon street.

The body was found in a residential area in the 4200-block of 34th Street, north of the Vernon Lodge, around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Mounties were at the scene for several hours as part of their investigation, but have now left.

They have not released any information about the victim, or if the death may have involved foul play.

RCMP are investigating the discovery of a body on a Vernon street Wednesday morning.

Police received a report that a dead person was found in the 4200 block of 34th Street, just north of the Prestige Vernon Lodge, around 6:45 a.m. Jan. 10.

“We’re now in the process of securing the scene and additional resources are being directed to the location to assist with the investigation,” Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer, said.

“We’re only in the very early stages of our investigation but based on what we know so far, there does not appear to be any risk to the public.”

Terleski said updates will be provided when available.
