Coldstream’s new community hall has been busy since opening six months ago.

A report to Coldstream council from the district’s staff said, during the fourth quarter, the hall hosted a variety of events.

“The hall featured events from Gallery Vertigo, Community Futures, the Esther Project and the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra. We hosted customer and employee appreciation events; non-profit annual general meeting; employee and RCMP training; as well as Christmas parties, weddings, celebrations of life and other social events,” a report from Cheryl Wiebe, community facilities manager, said.

Wiebe said they also have regular bookings from two Girl Guides of Canada units and a dog obedience/nose-work training program, and have also hosted sourdough bread making workshops.

The manager added the revenue target for 2023 was $35,000 and about $31,000 was generated. The revenue target for 2024 is $82,700.

January to March is expected to be the quietest months on an annual basis for the facility on Kalamalka Road, while May to June and September to October are predicted to be the busiest times for weddings and other functions.

“Highlights of 2024 bookings include the Young Agrarians Land Link, Fresh Outlook Foundation, Tolko, Kitchen Sink Pocket Orchestra, School District 22, Archway Society for Domestic Peace and the Vernon Teachers Association,” the report noted.

District staff say some specific comments from Google reviews include: Beautiful hall; amazing sound; nice hall with very good staff; dog friendly and beautiful and functional new space.

Bookings can be made 23 months in advance, or 24 months in advance for a reoccurring event.

The hall, and the adjoining 84-seat child care centre run by Maven Lane, cost just over $7 million and opened in May 2023. The majority of the costs were covered by senior government grants.
