Vernon resident program now in effect for recreation services

Jan 7, 2024 | 8:00 AM

The City of Vernon is reminding residents that the new Vernon Resident Program (VRP) is now in place at Vernon Recreation Services.

Under the program, Vernon residents, and residents whose local government participate in a ‘fee for service’ agreement with the City of Vernon, will receive reduced-cost services and early registration privileges with Vernon Recreation Services.

  • Eligible residents will benefit from a 50 per cent discount on posted memberships and admission rates, and a 25 per cent discount on certain registered programs.
  • Eligible residents will have priority registration, allowing them to sign up for programs two weeks before non-residents.

Communities in the ‘fee for service’ deal are Coldstream and RDNO Areas B and C. Residents of other communities who use Vernon recreation facilities, such as Armstrong or Spallumcheen, have to pay higher fees.

Non-resident households also have the option to purchase a VRP access card for $800 per year for family-wide benefits

The city said it may take a few minutes to register or validate an individual’s account for the first time.

“The City of Vernon is encouraging Vernon Recreation Services users who are eligible for the Vernon Resident Program to pre-register (one-time) before they wish to use recreation facilities, in order to avoid any potential delays,” a city news release stated.

The registration/validation process works like this:

  1. To validate your current account, or to get a new account created, please fill out a Recreation Services account creation and VRP membership form.
  2. Bring the completed form to either the Vernon Recreation Centre or Kal Tire Place.
  3. Applicants must present valid government issued photo ID with current residential address at the time of registration.

“The City of Vernon is committed to a workplace where everyone is safe and treated with dignity and respect. While staff are available to assist and answer questions, disrespectful behaviour including swearing and shouting will not be tolerated,” the news release said.
