Vernon residents encouraged to manage trash over holidays
With increased household waste building up over the holidays, the City of Vernon has several tips for managing garbage.
The festive season can see a lot of waste from parties, dinners, gifts and more, but the trash can be managed by recycling, diverting organics, and then filling the garbage cans.
Wrapping paper, gift bags and boxes, beverage containers, cardboard, glass, and plastic materials can be placed in the blue and grey RecycleBC bins for curbside pickup.
Food scraps and other compostable materials, such as soiled paper, napkins and paper towels, can be disposed of in the green-lidded organics cart. Residents are advised to use a BPI certified compostable bag or wrap food scraps in newspaper to reduce the risk of the waste freezing inside the cart.
