RDNO director continues as GVAC chair

Dec 7, 2023 | 2:30 PM

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee held its annual elections this week (Dec. 6), and a familiar face was chosen to continue as leader.

Bob Fleming, the director for Electoral Area B (Swan Lake-Commonage) of the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) since 2011, will be the committee’s chair for the next year, a role he has served since 2022.

Akbal Mund, a Vernon city councillor, former mayor of Vernon and former GVAC chair, will be the vice-chair, taking over from Coldstream councillor Jim Garlick.

Vernon Matters has reached out to Bob Fleming to find out GVAC’s priorities for the coming year.

The seven-member panel meets monthly at the RDNO office in Coldstream and makes recommendations to the RDNO board of directors on Greater Vernon issues pertaining to water, parks, recreation and culture, Kal Tire Place and Kal Tire Place North and the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre.

GVAC has three representatives from Vernon, two from Coldstream and one from each of the electoral areas in Greater Vernon: Area B (Swan Lake/Commonage) and Area C (BX-Silver Star). An agricultural representative is also appointed to the committee who can vote on water matters only.
