It’s time to get geared up for winter fun, and starting your youngsters in sports can lead to a lifetime of fun and fitness.

For Olympia Cycle and Ski the youth demographic is an important part of the business.

“The youth segment is really important to us. Starting kids off with a great first experience on the slopes is key for them to want to continue with the sport for years to come! That and nothing beats the smiling face of a little kid after a great day on the hill,” Olympia Cycle and Ski partner Nick Brush said.

The proper equipment is important for both comfort and development.

“If something doesn’t fit properly it always detracts from the enjoyment of the day. We all know how uncomfortable a blister is in our shoes, and that discomfort gets magnified when it comes to ski boots! Additionally, the incorrect size skis or boots can play a big role in slowing a child’s ability to progress. Skis that are too long, may mean they can use them for a few extra seasons, but those seasons won’t be nearly as fun if they are struggling to turn the longer skis all the time,” Brush noted.

There have been many equipment improvements that make learning how to ski easier.

“Kids’ equipment is always evolving. Lighter weight skis and boots allow the little one’s easier control of their equipment and helps them feel a little less tired at the end of a long day,” Brush said.

Children grow fast so to ease the financial burden Olympia offers a buy-back program.

“This program allows parents the option to trade in the gear they purchased from Olympia. Bring it back anytime in 2 years and get 50 per cent of the original purchase price as credit towards the purchase of new gear. This not only makes it a convenient way for parents to deal with used gear, but also helps offset the already expensive world of growing children,” Brush stated.

The company is also launching a new junior seasonal rental program as an option instead of purchasing.

“For $199 we can set any child under the age of 12 with a season-long ski rental to get them on the slopes with a truly affordable option. Growth spurt, no problem, come back anytime in the season and we will change the gear to the right size. This will help keep your little ripper progressing and having fun without breaking the bank,” Brush said.
