Vernon Vipers win fifth straight game, taking down Silverbacks

A big crowd was on hand to see the Vernon Vipers win their fifth straight game in the BC Hockey League, 5-3 over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks Friday night at Kal Tire Place.

Isaac Tremblay from Granby, QC led the Vipers was credited with two goals while Luke Pakulak was chosen the first star with his first goal of the season.

A crowd of 2,132 was on hand.

“Tonight the team was 100 per cent invested in doing the little things right and making big plays,” Pakulak, an assistant captain, told vernonvipers.com. “It was nice to get my first two goals in front of our awesome fans! This will give us some energy for Cranbrook tomorrow.

(Note: The Vipers website says Pakulak had two goals but the official scoresheet from the BCHL says it was just one.)

Anthony Cliche and Julian Facchinelli also scored for the 5-1 Vipers. Facchinelli now has points in all six games this season.

Ethan David made 23 saves for the win in net.

“I really liked our game tonight,” Assistant Vipers Coach Colton Sparrow said “I would say it’s probably our best 60 minutes of the year. That’s a very good team we faced and it took everyone. Everyone showed up and it was a good night for us.”

Casy Laylin had a goal and one assist for the Silverbacks, now 4-3.

The Vipers travel to Cranbrook to play the 2-4-1 Bucks Saturday at 6 p.m. which you can hear on Abby Dental Vipers hockey on 107.5 Beach Radio.

The Penticton Vees improved to 5-1-1 with a 4-2 win over the Bucks Friday.
