A Vernon man who plead guilty to drug trafficking charges will appear in court for a sentencing hearing later this month.

In December of 2022, Vernon’s Oakley Charest and several other men were arrested and charged following a Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) investigation into an alleged large-scale, interprovincial drug trafficking operation on behalf of a criminal enterprize.

Charest was originally charged with trafficking a controlled substance for a criminal organization; conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance; trafficking a controlled substance; possession of a prohibited weapon; two counts of possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition; and possession of a firearm while prohibited contrary to order.

In May of 2023, Charest plead guilty to drug trafficking, possession of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada said Charest will appear in Vancouver Provincial Court for sentencing on October 30.
