Enrolment rising in Greater Vernon schools

There were a few dozen more children in Greater Vernon and Lumby enrolled in classes compared to the previous year.

In an email to Vernon Matters, School District 22’s Superintendent, Dr. Christine Perkins, announced the enrolment numbers for local schools.

Perkins stated there were 8,792 students enrolled for the 2023-24 school year, up from the previous years figure of 8,738 students.

Perkins stated among those student were 354 signed up for English Language Learning (ELL) and 1,287 enrolled in Indigenous Education this year.

Comparatively, the 2022-23 school year had 255 ELL students and 1,259 Indigenous Education students.

Though there were 99 more students enrolled in ELL and 28 more in Indigenous Education, there were only 54 more students total enrolled in SD 22 compared to the 2022-23 school year.
