Evacuation Orders downgraded, Alerts lifted for Glen Lake wildfire

People in the Peachland area will be able to return to their properties.

The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre (COEOC), in consultation with the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) downgraded Evacuation Orders and rescinded Alerts in connection to the Glen lake wildfire Monday, Sept. 25.

AS of 3:15 p.m. Monday, the Evacuation Order for the six recreational properties on Glen Lake Forest Service Road and the two recreational properties at the 15/16 kilometre mark of Glen Lake Forest Service Road were downgraded to Alerts. The COEOC noted those residents should still be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice if conditions change and Evacuation Orders are issued again.

Meanwhile, the Evacuation Alerts for all areas within the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) south of the Brenda Mine site, southwest of Highway 97C and west of Highway 97, were rescinded Monday.

The Glen Lake wildfire was still classified as Out of Control and firefighting efforts continue both on the ground and from the air, though the mitigation efforts and the cooler, wetter weather has kept it at an estimated 1,116 hectares in size.

The COEOC also stated the structural protection crews had begun to demobilize equipment no longer need in Peachland.
