Vernon city staff say construction on the Lakeview Wading Pool is well underway.

An update on the project in Lakeview Park on 18th Street to Vernon council said the pool basin had been poured and the pool piping was installed as of September 1.

Epoxy painting of the gutters has been completed and painting of the pool basin and walls started September 4.

Pool perimeter drains have been installed and the pool perimeter pads are expected to be poured at the end of September or in early October.

The mechanical equipment, including the heat exchanger, flow meters and pool filters, were delivered on August 29, and the staff report to council stated they would be installed in the coming weeks while the interior of the washroom/mechanical building is being completed.

The building’s roof has been installed and the finishing work is underway, including the installation of cladding on the exterior walls. Testing and commissioning of the building is scheduled for the last week of October, and the report stated it is expected to be ready for public use by November 3.

The splash-pad design has also been finalized, and site preparation work is underway.

The report stated the budget is being “closely monitored and at this time is looking positive,” adding an application has been submitted to Fortis for financial support to install energy efficient boilers.

The project update stated the weather is being watched and, if required, the final commissioning for the Interior Health operating permit will be done in the spring.

The facility, which was previously known as the Peanut Pool due to its shape, is still on track to be completed by the end of June 2024 and be open in time for July and August.

Council will receive the report at the regular meeting Monday, Sept. 11, where they are expected to receive it for information.
