Think before you park at IPE

Have fun when you go to this year’s Interior Provincial Exhibition, but make sure you park responsibly or you might wind up with a ticket or get your vehicle towed.

That’s the advice from the City of Armstrong as it prepares for the 122nd edition of the agricultural fair from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3.

Parking is always an issue at the event, and the city says for safety reasons, drivers have to ensure vehicles are parked legally and safely.

It says during the IPE, vehicles can be towed and or a ticket issued for the following parking violations:

• Parking in a no-parking zone (designated by the city)

• Parked within 3 metres of a driveway

• Obstructing while parked (parking on a street with a centre line except in clearly marked parking spaces)

• Parking within 6 meters of an intersection or stop sign

• Parking within 15 meters of a railway crossing

• Parking within 5 meters of a fire hydrant

“These regulations are necessary to help keep traffic moving, public safety and to allow access for emergency response vehicles,” Warren Smith, community services manager, said

The city provides two public parking lots, at 2555 Wood Avenue and 2543 Pleasant Valley Blvd., outlined in red in the map below.

Fair patrons are also encouraged to support of the non-profit organizations that use parking lots as fundraisers, charging minimal fees for the day.

Smith said those non-profits are integral to the community and rely on the event for the revenue generated.

“We encourage fair goers to set a good example for each other, follow the parking regulations, be kind to each other and help make the IPE Fair and Rodeo an enjoyable and safe event for all,” the manager added.
